Mane to Munich: Senegalese ace signs deal with Bayern

By AH Musili,Liverpool has reached an agreement with Bayern Munich for the sale of Sadio Mane said to be within the realm of £30 million, with Liverpool initially targeting £40 million for the forward.

The former Southampton player has significantly contributed to the rise of Liverpool since joining in 2016, having lifted six trophies in his six years at Anfield.

Mane has always featured in Jurgen Klopp’s side, with the German having trusted in the Senegalese winger’s zeal and ability, to consistently lead the triumphant reds to victory.

The winger was part of Liverpool’s famous attacking trio together with Mohamed Salah on the opposite flank, and Roberto Firmino famously, who featured as a false nine in the ensemble, with Mane playing as centre-forward in a good number of his last games.

The soon-to-be Bayern Munich player has contributed 120 goals for Liverpool, making him an instant hit among the faithful and marking the end of an Epic Era in the club’s history book.

During his time in England, the 30-year-old has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool’s acquisition of Darwin Nunez was a sign of their determination to dominate European club football. Their focus is on rebuilding their squad to an even more competitive side.

Defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final and losing out to champions Manchester City on the final day of the Premier League meant a change was needed.

The 2022 AFCON winner only has one year left on his contract and unlike in the case of Manchester United who lost Paul Pogba on a free transfer, Liverpool saw wiser to cash in on their forward.

In the wake of league champions and rivals Manchester City, completing the signing of Erling Haaland, the Reds will not want to be left behind and are willing to raise the bar in response.

AS previously reported, Mane was nowhere on the list of top 100 most valuable players, according to the International Center for Sports Studies (CIES).

However, his recent move to Bayern is likely to place him as Africa’s highest-paid player.

Paris Saint Germain and Morocco international, Achraf Hakimi, is Africa’s most expensive player with an estimated transfer value of KSh 9.2 billion (€75.2m).

Mohamed Salah is the second most valuable player on the list at KSh 6.8 billion (€55m).

Napoli and Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen, (€51m) complete Africa’s top three most valuable players in the top 100 list.
