IEBC confirmed
that Irungu Kang’ata’s running mate failed to resign within the scheduled time.

The electoral
board required all state officers seeking elective positions, to resign by
February 9, 2022.

IEBC has
crossed fingers for Murang’a Senator Irungu Kanga’ata by denying to clear him
to vie for the Murang’a Gubernatorial seat.

This is after
the electoral board stated that Kang’ata’s running mate Winnie Mwangi failed to
resign from office as per the stipulated timelessness.

According to
the Election Act, state officers seeking elective positions are supposed to
resign six months before an election.

Following the
August 9 elections, state officers were to resign on February 9 2022.

EACC submitted
a letter to IEBC indicating that Mwangi had not resigned by February 9 as was
stipulated by the Kenyan law.

However,
Kang’ata has contemplated the IEBC decision by blaming his competitors who he
said have ganged against him, attempting to block his clearance to vie for
governor.

“We have
evidence that Winnie resigned on time and we will be coming back tomorrow to
prove it,” said Kang’ata.

Winnie Mwangi
served as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi for 25 years before she was
picked by Kanga’ata as his running mate.

Meanwhile,
Kang’ata is bidding for Murang’a Gubernatorial seat against five other
candidates through the UDA ticket.
