The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested former Commissioner of Lands, Wilson Gachanja, alongside two other officials involved in the illegal sale of public land.
The arrest comes after investigations into their role in aiding the illegal acquisition of public access road-Kwale Diani/Beach Block/1072 valued at KSh 30 million, to private developers.
The two arrested alongside Gachanja are the former senior lands officer in charge of the former Coast Province and former physical planner in the Ministry of Lands.
“In addition to tracing and recovering public land that was illegally allocated to private developers, EACC seeks to hold all the public officials involved to account,” EACC chief executive officer, Twalib Mbarak said.
“Public officials hold office to serve the public interest and as such, they should at all times desist from breaching the trust vested in them,”
They will appear in court this Tuesday.
Twalib further hinted at ongoing investigations targeting more officials related to similar cases involving the sale of public land.
