Kakamega homeboys may see a replay of the 2019-20 season, when the KPL title slipped from their grasp to land on Gor Mahia, although then it was more due to the league prematurely ending (controversially) thanks to COVID-19.
Homeboyz were only seven points shy of league leaders Gor Mahia with games left to play and although many called for a playoff for the title, the league was concluded and title handed to Kogallo.
Financial stability is difficult for most Kenyan football clubs to attain, yet Kakamega Homeboyz have achieved this feat over the years by focussing on their players. Chief executive, Cleophas Shimanyula’s efforts to provide financial security for his team and technical staff has resulted in consistent results for his club in Kenya’s topflight.
Since their promotion, Kakamega Homeboyz have enjoyed a stable campaign at the top of the Kenyan premier league table, not only avoiding relegation but finishing in top ten in all campaigns to date.
Mozzart Bet’s KSh 20 million Kakamega Homeboyz sponsorship is one such instance of smart business by the Kenyan club, currently second in the league.
The Leading gaming company sponsors various sports in Kenya including football via Kenya Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz, currently battling Tusker — last year’s KPL champions currently sitting top of this season’s table — for the title.
“So far we are very proud of Kakamega homeboyz and their efforts to lift the title. They have been on top of the table for fifteen rounds and that shows what the management of the team has put in place to ensure they show that gratitude for the sponsorship received from various sponsors,” Mozzart Bet Marketing Manager, Frank Ochieng, said during the unveiling of the gaming company as title sponsors of Nandi Re-Discover Road Race.

“Everyone wants to be at the top but at the top, there is a lot of pressure from everybody. So we take it easy and look for the results. For us we are not bothered whether they lift it or not, because we are already proud of what they have achieved. Although, if some magic happens, it is always an honour to be part of the winning team.” Frank added.
“We hope this year will give new rise to talent as well as put us on the map internationally as well. That’s why we are very glad to be part of the sponsors. Effects of the green economy and climate change, mozzart is committed to supporting sports but it’s also very good when we do so with a cause and the cause is preservation of the environment,” he said.
The two sides are equally placed with 57 points though, whether or not the Kakamega side wins doesn’t bother their sponsors, who already write down the football side’s achievement this season worthy of recognition.
