Qabale, a daughter of North Eastern had gone into the world and conquered, beating fierce competition from different countries across the globe.
The first ever Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award winner, Qabale Duba, who recently won the accolade that came with KSh 29 million, had a stylish homecoming in Marsabit.
The glorious occasion was graced by the elated villagers who broke into song and dance to celebrate Duba’s achievement. They were dressed in a beautiful matching blue white print ‘dera’ to fit the occasion.
It was all smiles, dance and ululations in Turbi, Marsabit as they welcomed their daughter home.
Songs were sung, hugs were exchanged, and laughter was shared as everyone sought to get a feel of the glamorous trophy that comes with the global award.
Duba shared photos of the event on her Facebook page, saying it was the happiest moment for her village mates when the Aster Guardians Global Award trophy finally arrived home in Turbi, Marsabit County, Kenya.
Accompanying the caption were photos that exuded pure joy, rich love, and faces that said more than words can do. And they had every reason to as Qabale had made proud not only the folks in her village whose peace lingers on weak thread year in, year out, but the whole country at large.
Earlier this month Kenyan nurse Qabale Duba based in Marsabit was announced a winner of the first ever Aster Guardian nursing award. The event which was held in Dubai saw Duba beat nine finalists who were amongst 24, 000 nominees all seeking to win the global award.
Qabale stood out of other applicants because of her tireless efforts to promote education, raise awareness about menstrual hygiene, and endless campaigns against outdated cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in her community.
Duba is the founder of the Qabale Duba Foundation – PAPA Project which provides sanitary towels and panties to girls so that they may focus on their studies.

“I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be recognized and celebrated in this manner. This is a victory for Kenya, Africa, and the girls in the villages,”
In an interview she had with Sauti TV’s YouTube channel, the Heroine says she will use the award she received to expand the schools she had started and try to break the illiteracy gap in Marsabit County.
She continues and says that Borana and Gabra are the same in the global platform therefore she’s asking the Marsabit people to keep peace. Then again, who would not want to celebrate a young girl who rose from abject poverty to becoming KSh 29 million richer overnight?
