US Confirms Intelligence Support in Operation That Eliminated ‘El Mencho’

El Mencho

The United States has confirmed it provided intelligence support to the Mexican government in a high-level operation that led to the elimination of Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, the alleged leader of the notorious Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the coordinated effort took place in Talpalpa, in the state of Jalisco, and marks a significant milestone in the fight against narcoterrorism and fentanyl trafficking.

‘El Mencho’ Identified as Top Fentanyl Trafficker

Leavitt described Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, widely known as “El Mencho,” as one of the top traffickers of fentanyl into the United States.

He had long been a primary target for both U.S. and Mexican authorities due to his alleged leadership of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, considered one of the most powerful and violent criminal organizations in Mexico.

The cartel has been accused of orchestrating large-scale drug trafficking operations, particularly involving synthetic opioids such as fentanyl across the United States.

Leavitt further noted that last year, President Donald Trump designated the CJNG as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

“Because that’s exactly what it is,” Leavitt stated, reinforcing the administration’s position that drug cartels operating across borders constitute a direct threat to U.S. national security.

Operation Details: Casualties and Arrests

During the operation in Talpalpa, three additional cartel members were killed, three were wounded, and two were arrested, according to the White House statement.

The Trump administration praised the Mexican military for its cooperation and successful execution of the mission, describing the joint effort as a powerful example of cross-border collaboration in combating narcotics trafficking.

President Trump, Leavitt emphasized, has been clear that the United States will continue pursuing individuals and organizations responsible for sending deadly drugs into the country.

“The United States will ensure narcoterrorists sending deadly drugs to our homeland are forced to face the wrath of justice they have long deserved,” she said.
