In what she describes as her first pet experience, Kenyan actress Lupita Nyong’o has found a companion in her recently adopted cat.
This comes one week after she declared her separation from Selema Masekela, her ex-boyfriend. The Black Panther star announced on social media that, despite having always been terrified of cats, she decided to adopt one when something unexpected happened in her life.

In a post captioned, A little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities. So, a dear friend held my hand through the process and took me to visit my first animal shelter. I fostered Yoyo, and three days into it, I knew I could not give him up. It may look like I saved Yoyo, but really, Yoyo is saving me. Lupita Nyong’o implied that the cat, Yoyo, was helping her heal from her recent breakup.
In another part of her caption, Nyong’o shared some adorable information about Yoyo, including his small quirks and favourite things. “HE HATES being alone. He is a HUGE foodie,” she wrote. “He has very specific tastes in wand toys. He drinks only water that’s running. There’s no hope for the bugs in the house. You shouldn’t trust him with vitamins.”
