Dwayne Johnson officially announced his return to the “Fast & Furious” franchise on Instagram Thursday, revealing that his long-standing feud with Vin Diesel ended secretly a year ago.
“Last summer, @vindiesel and I put all the past behind us,” Johnson wrote on the Instagram post. “We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.”

Beaming in a selfie video taken from his Hawaiian home, Johnson said he was thrilled that his lawman character Luke Hobbs would return to the next still-untitled “Fast” movie. “I am 100% confirming, Hobbs is back in the ‘Fast & Furious’ franchise,” he said.
Why ‘The Rock’ and Vin Diesel ended their ‘Fast’ feud
Johnson explained the reasons behind the thawing claiming the love for the fans aided in all between them and Diesel.
“In terms of the why, despite us having our differences, me and Vin, we have been like brothers for years,” said Johnson, who added that the two stars looked at the good of the franchise and the fans – “plans that are much bigger than ourselves, those bigger plans are the north star.”
“When you add all that up, it’s really not a hard decision to make,” said Johnson.
The two actors have had well-documented tension that boiled over while making 2017’s “The Fate of the Furious.” Vin Diesel has remained as franchise centre Dom Toretto. But Johnson’s Hobbs has been out of the main franchise ever since, appearing in the 2019 spin-off “Hobbs & Shaw” with Jason Statham.

In December 2021, Johnson knocked down Diesel’s Instagram invitation to return, saying: “This past June, when Vin and I actually connected not over social media, I told him directly – and privately – that I would not be returning to the franchise. I was firm yet cordial with my words… but that there was no chance I would return.”
Neither star mentioned the summer-loving reconciliation before Johnson’s video. The Rock said keeping the secret was “very hard.”
Fans received the first major signal with Hobbs appearing in a post-credits scene in “Fast X.” In the scene, revenge-seeking villain Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa) threatens Hobbs over the death of his father. “The devil is coming for you lawman,” he says.

“Well, I’m not hard to find,” Hobbs retorts, before cursing at Dante and crushing the phone.
Johnson said watching the fans’ shocked reaction to the scene was like watching “a rock concert.” He promised a battle royale in the next movie.”It’s not even unfinished business between Dante, it’s business about to pick up,” said Johnson. “Wait ’til you see what happens when Dante and Hobbs collide.”
