President Ruto: Uhuru to continue chairing peace in EAC

President William Ruto has publicy announced that his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta will continue to spearhead peace initiative across the East Africa region on behalf of the government of Kenya.

During the inaugration ceremony held on Tuesday, September 13 at Kasarani International Stadium, President William Ruto stated that Kenya is committed to partnering with other countries in enhancing peace, security and prosperity of East African Region.

Other conflicts zone he cited on were the Ethiopian and Great Lakes conflicts.

“I commit on the peace initiatives in our regions including both in Ethiopia and Great Lakes region, I have asked my elder brother President Uhuru Kenyatta who has done commendable engagements with those regions and he has graciously agreed to continue chairing discussions on behalf of the people of Kenya,” President Ruto said.

He said that Kenya is steadfastly dedicated to putting the East African Community (EAC) treaty and protocols for unrestricted trade in goods and services.

“Equally important is our commitment to the full actualization of the Africa Continental Free Trade area. Kenya will continue playing its role in international diplomacy at the bilateral and multilateral levels appreciating that we are host to major international agencies like the United Nations,” Ruto said.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo was approved for membership in the EAC under former president Kenyatta’s presidency on March 1, 2021.

Kenyatta received the highest praise from the commercial sector and the EAC Secretariat for involving the DRC in the association.

He further oversaw the region’s recovery from COVI-19 pandemic and resolved the trade conflicts between Kenya and Tanzania.

Kenyatta will be remembered as a peace advocate after serving as EAC chairman.
